Karate is a Japanese martial art, which first came from Okinawa to mainland Japan in 1916. Karate practice promotes mental and physical health, improves self-confidence, balance, focus, and strength. Our purpose is to improve ourselves through our practice and to perpetuate our art.
Our dojo is part of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA), a national non-profit organization teaching traditional karate since 1955. We are dedicated to teaching and studying Shotokan Karate in the traditional Japanese manner, following the teachings of Master Gichin Funakoshi and Tsutomu Ohshima, founder of SKA. All our instructors are black belts certified by Tsutomu Ohshima.

Originally this was the most important thing about martial arts – to reach a higher level, to become a strong human being. Strong doesn’t mean having big arms. It means who can be a more strict human being with himself. That is the ideal of martial arts.” – Tsutomu Ohshima, founder, Shotokan Karate of America
